Welcome

Thank you for visiting our Web site, the World Wide Web gateway to the National Center for Medical Readiness. This site contains important information and links to center projects and activities. We have also placed information we hope you will find useful as you explore the world of medical readiness.

At NCMR, we take your interest in us seriously. I would like to personally invite you to contact me with any questions you have on our programs and projects. I can be reached at (937) 775-7625 or by e-mail at mark.gebhart@wright.edu.

Our center is moving forward quickly on several key projects. This growth — controlled, methodical and well strategized — has come to fruition with several important and recent designations. In 2008, NCMR was designated as a university Center of Excellence by Dr. David Hopkins, Wright State University president. In 2010, Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland designated NCMR as the state of Ohio Center of Excellence in medical readiness. Through these designations, NCMR continues to engage traditional and non-traditional partners. Staff members from the center cover geography from California to Washington, D.C., as we work to advance all of our programs.

The NCMR Tactical Laboratory at Calamityville continues as our flagship program. Master planning has spanned months and has brought the creativity, intellectual capacity and true “grit” of so many to our center. Our team is excited as this process draws to a close and we prepare to open an even more exciting page in this project. Please see the different pages on the Website that will give you a glimpse into the present and future at NCMR.

Although fall may seem a distant thought to many of us as spring has barely begun, we are excited to be launching GLEA or the Grand Lake EMS Academy. This will be the first emergency medical services program in the state that carries the designation of a center of excellence. GLEA begins with traditional educational programs for basic, intermediate and paramedic level emergency medical technicians. Soon after these programs begin, they will move into new and unique areas. Please stay tuned for these exciting programs.

I invite you to check back frequently to see where we are going and what is happening at the center.

Mark E. Gebhart, M.D.
Director

About the National Center for Medical Readiness

The National Center for Medical Readiness (NCMR) is a community-wide effort to better prepare our community for large scale emergencies, such as a weather disaster, terrorist attack or hazmat situation. The Center was established by the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine Department of Emergency Medicine and has been certified as a National Disaster Life Support Foundation (NDLSF) Regional Training Center.

Calamityville logoThe NCMR is developing the Calamityville® Tactical Laboratory Project, a state-of-the-art, innovative, integrated, collaborative training and research facility to provide a one-of-a-kind training opportunity for the world's medical, public health, public safety, and civilian and military disaster response decision makers. NCMR Mission & Vision

NCMR logoThe National Center for Medical Readiness seeks "to be the international center of excellence in medical readiness education, training, research and operations." Read our vision and mission statements on this Web site.

In 2008, as the state of Ohio and specifically the Dayton area became increasingly aware of our progress with Calamityville®, we realized that the name we originally chose, Homeland Emergency Learning & Preparedness Center, no longer fit our total mission. Calamityville® will be a Center of Excellence for the Readiness and Resiliency of America's Healthcare System, therefore we have renamed the center National Center for Medical Readiness to reflect that vision. We also adopted a new logo (shown here) and changed the URL for our Web site to medicalreadiness.org.
